Carlos Alcaraz defeated the four-time defending champion Novak Djokovic in the final, 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4 to win the gentlemen's singles tennis title at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships. It was his first Wimbledon title and second major singles title overall.
Alcaraz, Djokovic, and Daniil Medvedev were in contention for the men's singles No. 1 ranking. Alcaraz retained the No. 1 ranking with his victory, and also became the first player to qualify for the year-end championships.For the first time since Lleyton Hewitt in 2002, the top seed and winner of the event was not a member of the Big Four; Djokovic lost in the final, Roger Federer retired from tennis, Rafael Nadal did not play due to injury, and Andy Murray lost in the second round. Stan Wawrinka was attempting to complete the career Grand Slam, but was defeated by Djokovic in the third round.
