There are plenty of things to dislike about hurricanes, and one of them is something that happens before they strike: Petrochemical plants in the area discharge hundreds of pounds of pollutants as they hurriedly prepare to shut down various units. Area plants need to do better, and state and federal regulators should make sure they do.
